To say that the Logan Center has been a game-changer for the University of Chicago is an understatement. Though the university has certainly had strong but disparate artistic venues for a long time, such as the Smart Museum and Court Theatre, the arts were once a very peripheral part of the university’s mission, as I can attest based on my experience as a college student there in the eighties. The Logan, in just ten years, has become a focal point in moving the arts to the center of the University experience, and students majoring in the arts have increased more than 130 percent since it opened...[it’s] become the nexus of a new level of engagement with the community around the University on the South Side...

Designed as a home for the creative life of The University of Chicago campus and the City of Chicago, the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts is a partner, resource, and catalyst for developing deeper cultural networks and richer creative projects citywide and beyond.

The Logan Center is a place where boundaries dissolve and artistic work is amplified through a web of collaborative partners. More than just a building, it is an innovative hub for arts education for UChicago students and Chicago-land students and families, a platform to showcase today’s most innovative creators across all media, and a locus for impactful and collaborative artistic Innovations with partners in nearby South Side communities and across Chicago.

I can say that from my first visit in 2012, the Logan Center has, and continues to be, a foundational presence in my creative life as an artist and my professional life as an educator. I, my family, and friends have greatly benefited from the programs, facilities, and resources the Logan Center offers for Chicago’s South Side communities. The Logan Center has provided me with a space to be a: learner, professional exhibiting artist, scholar, and educator. I continue to look to the Logan Center as central to my creative and professional life and expect that this relationship will grow and prosper in the coming years.
